On the way to appoint a commissioner and IPS commissioner: Minister of Public Security Gilad Arden (Monday) addressed Judge Eliezer Goldberg, chairman of the senior appointment committee, to request that the committee examine the candidates for the position of commissioner of police and IPS commissioner. The request comes after Attorney General Avichai Mandelblit approved permanent staffing of these positions, even though the current government is a transitional government.
Arden also explained that although the stockpiles placed in these positions are now worthy, the situation where no commissioner and IPS commissioner causes damage to the systems they are headed. "For about a year, the Israeli police and the prisons have been serving as deputy heads of these two important organizations," Arden wrote in his letter to Judge Goldberg.

Arden went on to write that "while the Commissioner of Police and the Deputy Commissioner of Prisons have full powers, the fact that these are not permanent appointments has negative implications as time goes on and may impair the functioning of these organizations, which have a direct impact on their security and safety.
