Override in Ramat Hasharon: Court calls police conduct "negligent"
-The Lod District Court on Monday shortened the arrest of driver Jonathan Padida, who is suspected of driving the deaths of two cyclists, Yaniv Logsey and Tomer Weinstein, in the Sharon road accident. Police asked to extend his detention for another week, during the hearing, Chief of Police Erez Kaplan said that in the suspect's blood was found an active drug at level 3.8 and a passive drug at level 13.
Judge Erez Melamed ruled that Padida's arrest should only be extended for another four days, and even criticized the police investigation. "I say in gentle language, the serious thing is that such a serious investigation case is negligent. Only on Friday did you gather yourself and contact the prosecutor's office, and that is when there are families with victims," Judge Melamed told the police representative. "You did not do very important elementary things, things you had to move forward with. The district court woke you up and referred you to the lender's attorney, and besides, you did almost nothing."
Attorney Carmi representing the driver made it clear that in order to establish driving under the influence of drugs, at least five is required of an active drug. During the day, until Wednesday, he also strongly criticized the police: "The investigating unit is not behaving in the way it should have been conducted."
