(CNN Spanish) - At least seven people died after the collapse of a retaining wall this Wednesday in the Las Lomas community in the canton of Sigsig, province of Azuay, in southern Ecuador, confirmed the Municipal Government of the canton.
Several vehicles and people were trapped when the concrete wall broke off at dawn. The Sigsig Volunteer Firefighters reported that rescue work ended early Wednesday morning.
Rescue and Fire Units of Cuenca, Gualaceo and Chordeleg supported the operation.
So far the authorities have not reported what caused the collapse of the wall.
