(CNN Spanish) - With the band imposed by her mother, Claudia López assumed on Wednesday as the first woman to occupy the largest government of the capital of Colombia.
At the beginning of his speech, López stressed that in addition to representing his gender, he represents sexual diversity.
"To possess myself as the first woman, diverse woman, elected as mayor in the history of Bogotá, infinite thanks to my city, its wonderful citizens for having entrusted me with this unique and wonderful opportunity," he emphasized.
The new mayor is a political scientist by profession, served as a senator for the Green Alliance party and was a candidate for vice president for the Colombia Coalition.
Claudia López is the wife of Senator Angélica Lozano, who accompanied her on the spot.
