Successful experiments for the propagation of the saffron plant conducted by the Agricultural Scientific Research Center in Sweida with the aim of spreading its cultivation among farmers out of its importance, economic benefits and its various medical uses.

The head of the Agricultural Scientific Research Center in As-Suwayda, Dr. Waseem Mohsen, explained that the center allocated three sites for growing saffron within its stations on an area of ​​four acres that gave good results that herald the possibility of cultivating it in the province very successfully, indicating that the first condition for the success of saffron cultivation is the height of the place where it is grown from the sea surface With a minimum of 600 meters where the cold weather gives better results for the cultivation that takes place during the month of September and its requirements for water are few, because the stages of its growth during the winter, preferably sandy soil with good drainage with a good content of lime and organic matter.

Saffron has many medical benefits, the most important of which is according to Mohsen’s uses in treating coughs, trachea infections, and dry skin, using it for diet, weight reduction, physical energy stimulation, strengthening the senses, stimulating the heart and preventing its acceleration, and it has preventive properties against cancer according to the latest scientific studies.

It is noteworthy that saffron is a bulbous plant of the species of Socinians, the active part of which is pollination members and called the seasons and they are removed from the open flowers, knowing that to collect one kilogram of dry seasons saffron requires the harvest of 130 thousand flowers.
