(CNN Spanish) - At least 200 firefighters and 80 members of the armed forces participate this Wednesday in firefighting operations that are registered in the Casitagua hill, located north of Quito, in Ecuador.
The chief of the Quito Fire Department, Esteban Cárdenas, in statements to the media, said Wednesday morning that the fire was reported Tuesday at approximately 10 a.m. local time, and that actions were taken immediately to prevent the spread. "One of our priorities was the precautionary heavy oil pipeline that is in the upper northern part of Casitagua hill, this has been totally effective," said Cárdenas.

"The conditions of the mountain, the topography, wind speed and the type of fuel really are quite complex for our operation," Cárdenas added.
The area affected by the flames or what could have caused it has not been detailed.
The Vice President of Ecuador, Otto Sonnenholzner, referred to the fire on Wednesday on Twitter: “We coordinate and evaluate the response actions to extinguish the fire on the #Casitagua hill. There are no victims to regret, nor affected homes. It is being monitored permanently, ”he wrote.
