The US House of Representatives approved, in a vote today, that the indictment of President Donald Trump be referred to the Senate in preparation for the start of the trial aimed at removing him.
According to Agence France-Presse, the decision was endorsed by 228 lawmakers, while 193 members of the Democratic-controlled House of Representatives opposed it, who was launching investigations against Trump in September, before he was charged with abusing power and blocking the work of Congress.
The House of Representatives also endorsed the decision to appoint the seven Democrats who make up the prosecution team at this trial and give them the authority to transfer the two charges against Trump to the Senate at a later time.
This joint trial is scheduled to begin next Tuesday in the Republican-controlled Senate, and may last for several weeks, during which Trump's fate will be decided in the presidency.
Trump's trial comes at a critical time for his administration with the escalation of the presidential election fever this year.
