2019 was the most violent year in Mexico's recent history with 34,582 homicides between January and December, according to official data from the Executive Secretariat of the National Public Security System (SNSP). The figures are equivalent to an average of 2.3 victims of manslaughter per 100,000 inhabitants. According to the SNSP, the most violent month was June with 2,993 intentional homicides. While the most violent state was Colima with 8.9 homicide victims per 100,000 inhabitants.
