Damascus Governorate has replaced about 200 lighting devices in a number of neighborhoods and streets of the city since the beginning of this year to date, as part of its plan to replace the traditional lighting "sodium vapor lamps" with lighting devices that use energy-saving "LEDs" technology.

The areas where the lighting has been replaced included the qasaa, the streets of the palaces, Faris al-Khoury, Aleppo, Al-Khatib, and Al-Abed, and May 29, according to the director of the Provincial Directorate of Lighting and Electricity Eng. Ziyad Saada, who confirmed in a statement to the SANA representative that during the coming days, the lighting will be replaced in Al-Shahbandar Street towards Al-Maysat and Corniche Street.

Saada explained that the energy-saving lighting devices "LEDs" can reach 150 watts and contribute to rationalizing energy consumption by up to 50 percent and reduce maintenance costs.

Saada pointed out that the Directorate, in cooperation with the Directorate of Renewable Energies at the Ministry of Local Administration and Environment, will light the new Al-Zahira highway towards the camp with solar powered lighting devices, explaining that the governorate has signed a contract with the Syrian network for lighting a shield shield and solar energy and will be direct within days.

The Directorate will, within its plan for the current year, according to Saada, illuminate all citizen service centers in Damascus with solar energy, and it has been announced that bids will be invited for this, confirming that the Directorate is currently studying the automation of all lighting devices in the city and linking them using the remote management feature in order to reduce costs and reduce operational expenses in coordination with the Directorate Informatics in the governorate and the Damascus branch of the General Company for Electricity and Communications "Syrian Networks".

The Directorate's workshops work on periodic maintenance of lighting in the streets, squares and gardens of the city, maintenance and repair of generation sets belonging to all directorates of the province, tunnels, electrical and mechanical equipment in the Umayyad and Abbasid seas and yards, and mud pumps for tunnels in the city, according to Saada.
