Cruise lines react to corona virus: passengers are no longer allowed to travel after traveling to China

The CLIA member shipping companies have responded to the corona virus *. They would be in close contact with health experts and regulators around the world , including the World Health Organization (WHO), according to CLIA Germany. Member shipping companies would continually evaluate and change policies and procedures as new developments emerge.

This includes changing cruise ship routes where necessary due to changing circumstances and, in accordance with applicable guidelines from the global health authorities, health, travel and contact checks of guests and crews who have recently left the affected area, if necessary or have traveled through the affected area.

According to the CLIA, screening protocols are used to decide, depending on the case, whether a guest or a crew member is refused boarding. The CLIA member shipping companies have suspended crew members' trips across mainland China, it is said. Guests and crew members who have traveled from or through mainland China within the past 14 days will not be allowed on board. The cruise industry is one of the most experienced when it comes to monitoring health conditions, and the ships have the appropriate equipment.

The cruise lines Costa Crociere and MSC had already canceled all cruises starting from Chinese ports due to the outbreak of the coronavirus. MSC canceled three cruises of its ship "Splendida" planned for early February with 6,880 places from Chinese ports towards Japan, the shipping company said.
