The one who wore the colors of OM and Senegal is a candidate in the 15th and 16th arrondissements.

He decided to enter the political arena. The former Marseille footballer (OM), Mamadou Niang, announced this Wednesday, at 20 minutes, that he is a municipal candidate in the city of Bouches-du-Rhône on the LREM list.

The ex-attacker, author of a hundred goals with OM between 2005 and 2010, will be a candidate in the 15th and 16th arrondissements, northeast of the Mediterranean city. He will be on the list of Saïd Ahamada, supported by Yvon Bertrand, presidential candidate for mayor of the city.

"I want to change things in this city that has a lot of needs," says Niang, who passed through Qatar and Turkey at the end of his career before finishing it in Arles-Avignon. Yvon Bertrand recalls, for his part, the past of OM captain of Niang to justify his involvement in local political life. He also insists on his associative commitment in several districts. Mamadou Niang is notably part of the management of Athlético Marseille, formerly Marseille Consolat, a city in the city.

Dinner with Macron

“We have a lot of kids who come from disadvantaged neighborhoods, but we help them get out of this context and give themselves a future. I want to meet them, chat with them, encourage them to register on the electoral lists, and to go to vote, ”explains the former player who also distinguished himself with the Senegal team.

He says that his commitment to the city follows a dinner with the President of the Republic, Emmanuel Macron, a claimed supporter of the Marseille club. “Marseille needs change, we all know, but nobody does anything. We are here to win, ”he proclaims.
