All eight candidates on the podium

The municipal elections in the rest of the Würmtal are not as exciting as in Planegg. There have never been eight applicants for the mayor's office. Munich's Merkur will bring them all together on stage: on Friday, February 21, during a panel discussion in the Kupferhaus.

Planegg– "We always had five or six candidates," said election supervisor Martin Götz. He assumes that there will be a runoff election two weeks after the local election on March 15. Because none of the eight candidates for the successor of Mayor Heinrich Hofmann (SPD) should be able to create an absolute majority straight away. Götz: "That would be a very big coincidence." Hofmann himself can no longer compete due to age. So there will definitely be a new church leader.

Christine Berchtold was the first to throw her hat into the ring. The primary school principal became mayor of the SPD in January 2019. Astrid Pfeiffer, who had to found the group of voters for Planegg & Martinsried (WPM) with a handful of fellow campaigners, joined last year. She is the only one who is not also a candidate for the local council.

New faces in politics

Susanne Beck-Trenkle is another newcomer to the political scene, who is running for BPM, which was also launched at the end of last year (Independent Mayor Planegg-Martinsried). With Hermann Nafziger, the CSU is sending a proven force into the race, the Free Voters Dynamics have chosen Cornelia David, formerly party-free in the SPD parliamentary group, as her candidate. Alliance 90 / The Greens, which revived their local association in autumn 2017, have chosen Judith Grimme as front woman. Philipp Pollems, who was drawn up by the FDP, is still a politically undescribed page. Angelika Lawo, the Green Group 21 candidate, has so far been less concerned with development plans and budget advice.

They all share the desire to steer and shape Planegg over the next six years. Munich's Merkur gives them a chance to speak in a panel discussion. The event on Friday, February 21st, 7 p.m., is the only way to see all the candidates for mayor at once. It will be moderated by Andreas Deny, head of the Würmtal editorial team, and Nicole Kalenda, the editor responsible for Planegg.

Citizens can send in questions

After a short round of introductions, the six women and eight men answer questions on stage. And this is where you, as a Planegger citizen, come into play: Send us your questions to the candidates for mayor. No matter what is on your mind - traffic, high rental prices, the situation of young people - confront those who want to put their seal on the development of the place. Write to the Würmtal editorial team what is important to you. Up to and including Sunday, February 16, you have time to get rid of your questions: by email to nicole.kalenda@merkur-de or by post to Münchner Merkur Würmtal, Bahnhofstraße 7, 82152 Planegg, stating your name and address. The editors sift through the letters to bring up what is burning most under their nails.
