The new pneumonia epidemic in Wuhan has continued. The cruise ship "Diamond Princess", which once carried patients diagnosed in Hong Kong, is currently moored at Daikoku Pier in Yokohama, Japan. So far, 64 people have been diagnosed with new pneumonia. The remaining passengers are being isolated on board.

Member of the Legislative Council of the Democratic Alliance for the Betterment of Hong Kong (DAB), Zheng Yongshun, said that Hong Kong people on board had been contacted one after another today (8th). He was informed that as of 5:00 pm, the passengers seeking help had not received the required medicines, and the contact express delivery company was also refused. Zheng Yongshun pointed out that some people urgently need drugs such as heart disease, and the situation is urgent, and the Immigration Department and shipping companies are required to provide prompt support.

Zheng Yongshun pointed out that the cruise ship has already left the high seas, and there is a shortage of daily necessities such as cleaning supplies. In addition, two patients diagnosed with the new coronavirus have been added to the ship today. Some Hong Kong passengers are worried because they do not understand the instructions on board due to language problems.

Zheng Yongshun also said that as far as he knows, more than 3,000 people in the "Diamond Princess" are currently quarantined, and more than 200 are from Hong Kong. The cruise ship will return to Yokohama tomorrow. Today's supplies can only be handled at sea. The shipping company has also arranged for passengers to reach the deck during the day, but the elevator has been discontinued.

Ask Chinese Embassy to Support Hong Kong Travelers

Zheng Yongshun pointed out that Hong Kong travelers seeking help, like other passengers, have been quarantined for three days. As there may be patients with chronic illnesses on board, he is aware that the Japanese side has sent additional medical staff on board today and hopes that the authorities or shipping companies will send necessary information to passengers when necessary and take care of their needs.

Zheng also said that he had contacted the Immigration Department today and was informed that the department ’s assistance residents group had put in support. In response to the urgent matter, he asked the authorities to find the Chinese embassy to help them in providing support to the Hong Kong tourists in various aspects, including medical aspects. He will continue to follow up the situation of Hong Kong people in the "Princess Diamond" if necessary or considering sending staff to transport related medical supplies.
