Hungarian police said on Saturday they had dismantled a network of fraudulent websites claiming that Hungarians had died from the coronavirus, with the sole aim of attracting traffic and earning money.

A couple are suspected of "managing dozens of fake news sites and Facebook pages spreading fake news," police said on their website. As an illustration, the police showed one of these sites, which titled: " A 37-year-old Hungarian woman died in Budapest, probably from the coronavirus ".
Computers were seized in several raids against the counterfeiters, which took place on Friday, the statement added. No case of the disease, which makes headlines in the press worldwide, has yet been reported in Hungary.
