Algeria: 15 years in prison on appeal for Saïd Bouteflika and two accomplices

Said Bouteflika, brother of ousted president Abdelaziz Bouteflika, and two former Algerian intelligence chiefs were sentenced on Monday night to appeal to 15 years in prison by a military court for conspiracy against the army and the state, we learned from judicial sources.

Saïd Bouteflika, General (Athmane) Tartag and General (Mohamed Lamine) Mediene have had 15 years in prison. The first verdict has been confirmed, "said Mr. Boudjemaâ Guechir, lawyer for the fourth co-accused in this trial, Louisa Hanoune, secretary general of the Workers' Party (PT, Trotskyist). The latter, sentenced at first instance to 15 years' imprisonment, saw her sentence reduced to three years in prison, including nine months firm, and " will be released, " said Mr. Guechir.
