(CNN) - Soccer star Dele Alli apologized for a video he posted on Snapchat about the coronavirus outbreak.
Tottenham Hotspur midfielder deleted the video he posted on Saturday in which he filmed with a facial mask and seemed to make fun of an Asian man, according to PA Media.
The virus, which has spread from the Chinese city of Wuhan, has killed 1,000 people worldwide and infected more than 42,000.
“I just wanted to personally apologize for the video I posted on Snapchat yesterday. It was not fun and I realized immediately and I deleted it, ”wrote Alli, 23, on the Chinese social media site Weibo.
“I disappointed myself and the club. I don't want you to have that impression of me because it wasn't funny and I realized immediately and I deleted it. ”
“It's not something to joke about. I am sending all my love and all my thoughts and prayers to everyone in China. ”
The Tottenham team is currently in a mid-season break and their next game is against Al Aston Villa in the Premier League on February 16.
