For festive occasions, the town hall is to be decorated with flags as a public building - but in Miesbach it is not easy. This was passionately debated in the city council. Result: You do not want to be ordered by the monument protection.
The reconstruction of the southern area of the Miesbach town hall has largely been completed. It is still unclear where the flags should fly in the future. The former location in front of the library is no longer an option for the four flagpoles, since the foundation and installation area is located within the crown area of the tulip tree. In November 2019, the city council should already decide between the fountain game on the north side as the location for the flagpoles and the east side along Rathausstraße - once with receipt and once with loss of the disabled parking space. Result: The administration was commissioned to check that the flags were attached to the north facade.
Clear announcement from the district office: facade is taboo
But that doesn't work. At the on-site visit in December, the Lower Monument Protection Authority at the district office strictly rejected this variant - for monument conservation and architectural reasons. Instead, it was recommended to erect the masts along the water feature - taking into account a space for the annual Christmas tree.
But some city councilors got in the way. "I don't understand that," said Alfred Mittermaier (CSU). "Regensburg is a World Heritage Site - you can do that. Only not with us." The facade of the town hall had been flagged even before the Third Reich. Now it should be masts “that disfigure the view of the town hall and generate permanent noise with their ropes. Brackets only available for "Butzerl flags"
Even Hedwig Schmid (SPD) could not understand the line of monument protection. "We have three brackets there," she replied. "But only Butzerl flags, not for the big ones," Mayor Ingrid Pongratz (CSU) said. It is also interesting whether there are prescribed minimum sizes for flags. Verena Assum (CSU) suggested to look again for a facade solution. Pongratz also wants to clarify whether three flags are enough and whether they can be smaller. The city council agreed to this, without Manfred Burger (Greens). The monument protection proposal to erect masts at the water feature fell through.
