Leclerc: "What we all want at Ferrari is to be world champions"

2020-02-11T23:01:30.575Z

After a successful first season in red, Charles Leclerc sees even bigger in 2020. The Monegasque Ferrari driver explained this on Tuesday, during the presentation of his new single-seater.

Your main team Mattia Binotto has spoken of a “more radical” Ferrari this season. Is that what it takes to pick up Mercedes?
Charles Leclerc : Of course, we have made slightly more radical choices than previous seasons in certain areas of the car. We worked a lot, a lot. I don't think we have necessarily followed the example of the other teams. We focused on ourselves, our weaknesses and what we could do to improve. I hope it will be a successful project.

You also extended your contract until 2024 ...
It is an honor to know that I will be racing for five years for Ferrari. It's something grand and it's been a dream since I was little. But I think it's good for both parties, for Ferrari as for me. Building something over the long term is always positive.

Last season, you started winning races. What is the objective today? The title ?
This is what I want deep down, of course. What we all want at Ferrari is to be world champions. But I never set myself a goal in terms of results. What I want is to be able to look back at the end of this year 2020 and tell me that we have not missed an opportunity. It is the most important. We try to optimize everything, the car, the race management, the strategy, but also on my side the tire management. We do not have all the answers, we will continue to work. But I think we have grown a lot.
