What is missing in the cultural field? How can waiting lists for childcare be avoided? The Free Voters (FW) at the Gasthof Geiger investigated these questions. The FW city council candidates and members of the local branch largely stayed among themselves.

Geretsried - Günter Wagner, replacement candidate on the FW city council list and festival director of the Geretsried cultural autumn, spoke about his area of expertise, culture. "We have a lot in Geretsried, but we don't have everything," he said. What is missing, for example, is a gallery. According to the city, rooms for fine art should actually have been rented in the “Puls G” building on Karl-Lederer-Platz. According to Wagner, this is not the case. The council room is not a piece of jewelery and leaves something to be desired in terms of technology.

The free voters would be in favor of putting money into the renovation, even if the community center in Stein would soon be a modern event hall and sometime when the S-Bahn to Geretsried, a hall on the Böhmwiese was planned. Mayor Cornelia Irmer said that a city of the size and with the development of Geretsried needed several theater, concert and festival halls. "That should be discussed in the new city council for me," she said.

What the city has little influence on, but which Wagner believes is also missing from the population, is a cinema and pubs. "It is total nonsense to say that Geretsrieder does not go away," said Wagner. Felix Leipold said that the "PapperlaPub" on Adalbert-Stifter-Strasse is currently the only meeting point for young people in the evening.

In the new center, the free voters want "more piazza feeling" through longer opening hours of cafes and concerts. "Comparable cities like Olching or Unterhaching are way ahead of us in this respect," said Wagner. In his eyes, the songwriter festival would have to be “pushed more”, and a theater ensemble initiated by the city and playing demanding pieces would also be worthwhile. The city council candidate Jochen Pelz has no problem that the city regularly pays for the cultural autumn. The event was a win, he agreed with the other participants.

As for culture, the same applies to childcare that there are many facilities, but not enough. Sonja Frank, social counselor for the city council, reported that this year 50 children are on the waiting list for a place in crèche, kindergarten or after-school care. "Other cities can do it better," says Frank. Like recently the SPD during its discussion with the city, it suggested the establishment of large day care under the auspices of the city. In rented, child-friendly rooms, trained child minders could look after up to 16 children aged between 0 and 14 all day. “This would make the city more flexible. Depending on requirements, she could accommodate crèche children or school children there, ”said Frank. She reported on a group of women who wanted to offer such large day care starting in September, but who had already found a carrier. Frank promised that she would address a second institution in the hands of the city in the event of her re-election.

In the opinion of the free voters, there would be little advantage if the city ran its own day care center. Cornelia Irmer said that it is a good tradition in Geretsried to give the day care centers to porters. The city eventually build some, such as on Künnekeweg. The additional own operation would mean a high administrative effort. Irmer agreed that the free voters would prefer to work for day care.
