US Justice Minister Bill Barr, accused by the opposition of using his post to serve the personal interests of Donald Trump, will be questioned during a congressional hearing on March 31, Democrat officials said on Wednesday. Bill Barr has agreed to be heard by the House Judicial Committee, the Democratic members of the commission said, writing to him to advise them of " concerns " they would be addressing.

" Since you have been minister, your attitude in legal affairs related to the president has raised significant concerns for this commission, " they wrote, accusing him in particular of having intervened in the file of Roger Stone, a friend and ex-advisor to Donald Trump. The 67-year-old political consultant was convicted in November of perjury for lying to Congress as part of the investigation into suspicions of collusion between Moscow and Donald Trump's campaign team. His sentence is to be pronounced on February 20.

The four prosecutors investigating the case recommended Monday a sentence of 7 to 9 years in prison against him, immediately drawing the wrath of Donald Trump who, in a tweet, denounced a " very unfair situation ", a " mistake judicial ”.

The following day, the Ministry of Justice in turn judged the recommendation " not suitable " and suggested a penalty of between 3 and 4 years. The four prosecutors, repudiated by their hierarchy, announced that they would withdraw from the case. Donald Trump congratulated Bill Barr, whom he appointed to his post, on Wednesday for his intervention, while swearing that his tweets were not " political interference " in an ongoing court case.

Asked if he would pardon Roger Stone, he added, " I don't want to say it yet. "
