(CNN Spanish) - The five Dominican students trapped in the Chinese city of Wuhan, the epicenter of the outbreak of the new coronavirus, will be transferred to Ukraine on Friday, according to Dominican Foreign Minister Miguel Vargas Maldonado.

The Dominican official said he spoke with his counterpart in Ukraine, who promised to carry out the transfer of university students in a plane.

Once in Ukraine, students will remain in quarantine while health requirements are met in order to return to the Dominican Republic, Vargas Maldonado said.

"From there it will be our responsibility so much attention, because they will have to quarantine in Ukraine and from there we would come to the Dominican Republic at the time it is established according to the sanitary records and mechanisms," said the chancellor.

In a letter sent to CNN, Dominican university students expressed concern about the lack of concrete plans for repatriation, after Thursday of last week a plane from Brazil that traveled to Wuhan to look for Brazilian citizens had no space to move them.

This transfer could not be materialized by the Brazilian government as announced due to the lack of space on the plane by the high Brazilian population in that city, according to Vargas Maldonado.

The Dominican Foreign Minister said they remain in constant communication with the students, who are in good health.
