Judicial setback for Lázaro Báez: they will not suspend the trial of the Ruta del Dinero K

The IV Chamber of the Federal Criminal Cassation Chamber did not give rise to an extraordinary appeal filed by the defense of Lázaro Báez to suspend the trial of the "Route of Money K".

Lázaro Báez's defense had raised the suspension of the trial initiated in October 2018. He argued that on the occasion of the trial that is being carried out in another case - the “Road” Cause - could result in contradictory resolutions.

Thus, the defense of Báez filed a complaint against the Federal Oral Criminal Court No. 4, which had rejected the suspension of the debate. That decision was now ratified by the IV Chamber of Criminal Cassation composed of Mariano H. Borinsky as president, Javier Carbajo and Gustavo M. Hornos.

As the Judicial Information Center (ICJ) reports, "the Court - in the decision that was confirmed by the Chamber of Cassation - held that the identity between the two investigations could not be demonstrated."

Báez's defense - he adds - had also presented an "exception of litispendence" under a new investigation initiated by Casanello in which the acquisition of a stay in the Oriental Republic of Uruguay is investigated . That statement was also rejected on the grounds that it is not the same facts that are being judged in the trial that is in full swing.

On October 30, 2018, Lázaro Báez sat for the first time on the bench of the defendants, when he began the trial against him in the case of the "Route of money K" where with his four children, 20 are prosecuted more people among them Leonardo Fariña, Federico Elaskar and Fabián Rossi.

The Money Route K is one of the largest files in terms of money laundering. The investigation has 191 bodies (38,200 sheets) and 270 incidents, each of which has 50 bodies.
