Marseille: indictment of a policeman stabbed in a brawl by a teenager

2020-02-13T11:28:31.352Z

A police officer seriously injured with a stabbing knife by a teenager in January in Marseille was indicted for premeditated violence, after being initially presented as having simply intervened in a dispute between young people, we learned on Thursday close to the case.

"The police officer was charged with violence without temporary interruption of work with premeditation," said this source. The policeman's assailant, a 17-year-old boy, had himself made himself a prisoner the day after the incident. He had been charged with assault with weapons but left free under judicial supervision. The policeman was also left free.

The 25-year-old policeman had initially been presented as a simple victim, after having intervened on January 11 in the evening in an emerging brawl between young people, in front of a bakery in the Chartreux district, in the heart of the city. It was during this intervention, when he was in civilian clothes and he had not presented himself as a police officer, that he had been stabbed in the abdomen by one of the young people. The prosecution did not specify the exact role of the police in this case. But according to the regional daily La Provence , the drunk police officer participated in the outbreak of this brawl and he kicked one of the young people, who then retaliated with a knife.

This officer was normally assigned to the security of the courthouse. Quickly, his role had seemed vague to the investigators, and the judicial information opened to determine the facts precisely targeted both the adolescent who stabbed him and his victim.
