Amie Harwick in 2016

(CNN) - Amie Harwick, a Hollywood sex therapist and ex-girlfriend of comedian Drew Carey, was killed over the weekend, Los Angeles police said. An ex-boyfriend was arrested as a suspect in his death, police said.

Harwick, 38, was found without vital signs at home early Saturday morning with injuries consistent with a fall, according to a Los Angeles police (LAPD) statement.

Police responded to reports of a "woman screaming" in the Hollywood Hills neighborhood, where Harwick lives, according to the statement. They found the person who lives with Harwick on the street, who told them that Harwick was being attacked inside the house.

The cops found Harwick on the floor under a third floor balcony. She was "seriously injured" and did not respond, LAPD said.

The Los Angeles Fire Department transported her to a local hospital, where she later died, according to the statement.

An investigation showed evidence of a struggle upstairs, as well as forced entry to Harwick's house, LAPD reported.

An FBI-LAPD task force arrested Gareth Pursehouse, 41, on Saturday afternoon, according to the statement. He is being held on bail of US $ 2 million, according to jail records.

It is not clear if Pursehouse has a lawyer.

Harwick had recently expressed his fear of an ex-boyfriend and filed a restraining order against the man, according to the statement, but the restraining order had expired, and the Los Angeles Police Department said he had seen the man two weeks before his death.

The LAPD statement said police would present the case to the District Attorney's Office for consideration on Wednesday.

Hollywood therapist and advocate for sex work

Harwick was a well-known therapist in West Hollywood, specializing in family and sexual counseling. He appeared regularly on podcasts, television shows and his YouTube channel to discuss his work.

Harwick, a Playboy ex-model, also advocated for sex workers and supported a nonprofit organization that subsidized mental health care for artists in the adult industry.

Harwick got engaged to Drew Carey, host of "The Price is Right," in 2018. The couple separated less than a year later.

Customers and friends mourned his death.

"[Harwick] was my therapist," model Emily Sears tweeted on Sunday. “His work changed my life. It is truly heartbreaking that he passionately dedicated his life to helping others recover from trauma and live freely. ”

“We talked in detail about my past history with domestic abuse [sic],” tweeted the product of E! Kelsey Darragh tweeted. “She dedicated her LIFE to help women like me. It feels unreal. DEP Dr. Amie. ”
