Schwaigen - It was definitely a turning point in the history of the Schwaigen community with its main town Grafenaschau. In May 2019, the suitcases were packed in the Lindenhof retirement home. The 39 older gentlemen moved to Schlehdorf, where they expected new, modern rooms. The move was carried out with seven minibuses.
The future of the Lindenhof
What remained was a local property and an area of 10,800 square meters. What's next? This is one of the central questions that the local council deals with. Mayor Hubert Mangold (independent) wants a mixed use of social, tourism, quiet business and housing for the area. In addition, space is needed for the kindergarten, which bursts at the seams. Apparently there are several investors who would be interested in operating in Grafenaschau. A next meeting is scheduled for March.
Inner mission is covered
The relationship between the Lindenhof owner Inner Mission and the community of Schwaigen was tense at times. "It has improved," says Mangold. "We are on the right track." The Inner Mission remains undercover. "The Lindenhof has been empty since the help there moved out in old age," says Klaus Honigschnabel, head of corporate communications at the Inner Mission Munich. "It has been agreed with the municipality of silence about all further processes relating to the further use of the area."

Many construction sites
There has been no shortage of other construction sites and projects in Schwaigen in the past six years. In the first place is the village shop. Since August 2018, citizens have been able to buy everyday necessities on around 180 square meters on the ground floor of a new community building. At the top are partners from the citizens and the community who act as operators and hold the strings in their hands. There are also around 120 silent partners. There is a lot of volunteering and idealism behind the project. But the gear grated. After a wave of resignations and inconsistencies, an almost completely new team of shareholders took over responsibility at the end of 2019. Close customer loyalty and the sale of regional products are very important. "An incredible number of citizens shop there." The fact that numerous cyclists come along the way also benefits the village shop.
New multi-purpose hall since 2014
The current legislative period had its first high point in November 2014. The municipality was able to inaugurate the new multi-purpose hall. A good five years later, Mangold says: "It is going well." A kung fu department is there regularly, there are Pilates classes, Mardi Gras balls, weddings, birthday parties and so on and so on. The hall is also used for citizens' meetings, which mayor Karl Schwarzberger had initiated in the era.
Massive landslide
The municipality was also challenged because of the forces of nature. In May 2015, when it was raining longer, a massive landslide occurred near Grafenaschau in the area between the Stierkopf and the Rehbreinkopf. Five to eight hectares in size, it detached itself in the area of the Angerl forest road. A mixture of soil, rock and young trees buried the paths below. The scree was sometimes eight to 15 meters deep. Cracks, crevices and cavities were formed. There was a risk to life for hikers. The situation has since calmed down. The community is in contact with the Water Management Office (WWA). Sand traps are to be installed. The WWA is also active in Schwaigen to make the community flood-proof. The historic torrent structures in the Lahnegraben - so-called wooden box barriers - are being renewed. In 2017, the project was estimated at 1.9 million euros. In addition, there is still work to be done on the Nonsensical Trench.
Concept for precipitation
The community has the subject of precipitation on the agenda for another reason. Because they have to create a new disposal concept. A second derivation is to be realized. The cost - immense. "Almost seven digits," estimates the mayor. "We still don't know if we can get funding."
New building area planned
When the said concept is in place, the municipality on Lindachstrasse wants to build a new building area. It should comprise 15 parcels. "We are looking at slow growth," stresses Mangold. The community also has a local heating network in mind. At least two thirds of the citizens should join. "Many have said they will participate." Next year, the project will be implemented on a site of the Bavarian State Forest.
