They investigate the death of 6 people deprived of liberty in a prison in Ecuador

(CNN Spanish) - Six people deprived of liberty died Thursday at the Turi Regional Social Rehabilitation Center in the city of Cuenca, Ecuador, according to a statement from the Comprehensive Service of Care for Adult Persons Deprived of Liberty and Infringing Adolescents (SNAI).

The director of the penitentiary center, María Belén Cabrera, in joint effort with the SNAI and the Police of Ecuador, investigates the events that caused the deaths in the minimum, medium and maximum security pavilions. The statement informs that Cabrera "maintains permanent dialogues with the leaders of the different pavilions, in order to know the causes that motivated the events."

The authorities indicated on Tuesday afternoon that "at the moment the Regional CRS continues to develop its daily activities."
