(CNN Spanish) - The Prosecutor's Office of Paraguay arrested 10 people this Saturday in the city of Pedro Juan Caballero, Amambay department, on the border with Brazil, in connection with the investigation into the death of journalist Leo Veras.
According to official information, the arrests occurred during an operation in which 19 buildings were searched and several weapons seized, which will be subject to expert appraisal.
Veras was murdered on February 12 at his home while having dinner with his family.
The journalist, of Brazilian origin, lived in Paraguay and managed an information portal on the Internet in which he wrote about facts related to drug trafficking in the area.

Investigators believe that Veras could have had harmful information for criminal groups operating at the border, according to prosecutor Marcelo Pecci.
“It is a complex case, it is not common homicide. It is a homicide that has its origin in organized crime, we have to understand that. That is why an arduous task begins now, ”Pecci said after the raids.
