(CNN Spanish) - The first 48 hours of military police and firefighters strike in the state of Ceará, in northeastern Brazil, have recorded a total of 51 murders, according to the Ministry of Public Security and Social Defense (SSPDS).

According to Camilo Santana, governor of Ceará, members of the armed forces are already patrolling in the streets of the state, after the execution of the Decree of Guarantee of the Law and Order signed by the president of Brazil, Jair Bolsonaro, last Thursday, and It will run until February 28.

Last Wednesday, in the context of the strike, Ceará senator Cid Gomes was shot with two shots while trying to enter one of the barracks where mutinous military police officers were. After surgery, Gomes is stable, as indicated by the senator in his social networks.

In the state of Ceará, the average number of murders is 6 per day, according to figures managed by the state agency Agencia Brasil.

The police strike, which began for salary reasons, began on February 18 and has not yet been resolved.
