The district court of Erding gets more cases on the table every year. The numbers are exploding. This is due to the nearby Munich airport.
Erding - If you wanted to depict the district court of Erding in a comic, you would have to draw it with the walls curved outwards with a roof flying away. Because the workload of the Erdinger judiciary continues to increase - especially for the civil judges. The number of proceedings rose by 50 percent to 8,827 in the past year. In 2018 there were 5875. This was reported by director Ingrid Kaps and her representative Dr. Stefan Priller on Friday in the annual press conference. And the tide is not ebbing. "We are seeing another strong increase this year," explains Kaps. 1128 proceedings were in January alone.
From eight to 19 judges in six years
Most lawsuits come from air traffic. According to Kaps, passengers with delays or cancellations can transfer their claims to an online portal with a few clicks of the mouse and receive money immediately. The agencies then complain to the local court in Erding, which is solely responsible for Munich Airport. "It has become a real money printing machine for lawyers," Kaps complains.
When she came to Erding from the Munich judiciary six years ago, there were eight judges, today there are 19. Three new judges have just started their service on Münchener Strasse - all of them responsible for civil matters (report to follow).
Up to three judges have to share an office
This exacerbates the lack of space in the building built in 1904. “Up to three judges already share an office. That is anything but satisfactory, ”says the director, who is happy that“ we can also do home offices ”. The land registry has already been outsourced, as has the enforcement office - both at Stadtwerke Am Gries. After the bailiffs have left the judicial premises on the stud ring, the estate department is to move there. But first of all there needs to be renovated.
Justice spokesman: We compete with large law firms for the best people
Press officer Priller is concerned about another issue: “As far as the best people are concerned, we compete with large law firms with high salaries and company cars. We also have to offer attractive conditions. ”
The deportation facilities in the Erding prison and at the airport also provide an additional burden. The number of procedures rose by almost a fifth from 250 to 307. “And because of language barriers, we need a lot of time for them,” says the director.
Pleasing: juvenile delinquency is on the decline
The numbers that the four criminal judges delivered in 2019 are slightly down. Single judge negotiations fell slightly from 2251 to 2245. 63 (68) cases ended up before the lay judge. The juvenile court held 187 (229) negotiations, the juvenile judges 35 (45). "These are good values because they show that youth crime is falling, contrary to popular belief," says Kaps.
The family court was called 1016 (1067) times. Over 500 marriages have been divorced. The land registry carried out 11 332 (11 087) acts - for Kaps a proof of the lively construction activity and the economic prosperity of the region.
The probate court registered 1302 (1221) wills, a total of 2548 (2402) cases.
Another department will have to move out soon
The supervising judges were responsible for 1,779 people, almost as much as in the previous year. 656 new cases were added. "In view of the aging population, this number will remain at a high level," Kaps believes. For the judges that means a lot of effort, because they have to go to the homes before each decision.
Kaps hopes that the installation of a new, barrier-free entrance can begin this year. As a long-term goal, however, you still have a judicial center in mind - with enough space for Bavaria with the most heavily burdened district court.
