Harthaus: The long way from the footpath to the stairs

The long wait has come to an end. This year, the footpath leading from the northern P&R square at Harthaus station to the platform will be replaced by a staircase.

Germering - Mayor Andreas Haas has now signed a contract with the railway that makes this and other changes at the station possible.

The trail was an unwanted consequence of the barrier-free expansion of the station six years ago. Reason: Access from the bus stop at the northern P&R square to the platform makes a detour of 15 to 20 meters via wheelchair accessible ramps necessary. The result was that just a few weeks after the completion of the conversion, a footpath had been created that allowed quick and direct access to the train. That will be over now. The city builds a staircase at its own expense, exactly where the path is. Because the property belongs to the railway, it had to agree to the project. Mareike Schoppe, as station manager of the DB station and service responsible for it, now signed her in the town hall under the contract.

The contract regulates further conversions at the station, which are also carried out by the city. On the one hand, this includes optimizing the bus stop at P&R Platz Nord. It is extended and straightened so that it can be approached by two buses at the same time. The approach area itself is designed in such a way that, unlike now, the buses can drive parallel and without a gap to the curb. A new path with two stairs to the pedestrian underpass of the railway line is created from the stop. The curb is raised.

The bicycle parking facilities in the station area should also be upgraded. At all three locations at the station, new parking spaces are to be built that meet the guidelines of the ADFC bicycle club. The area north-west of the station that is most frequented by cyclists is to be improved with additional double-decker parking spaces.

All of the measures together cost around 350,000 euros - that's a lot of money for the city too, as Haas noted when the contract was signed. Mareike Schoppe is responsible for all S-Bahn stations. Shortly after starting work, she visited the Germeringer stations with Haas. One of the first consequences was the demolition of the rotten kiosk at Germering station and the okay that the city was allowed to build a toilet there - also at its own expense. This should be finished soon. kg
