Italy-Scotland Tops / Flops: Stuart Hogg lightning, Italy at its lowest

2020-02-22T17:20:46.324Z

Scotland won 17-0 in Italy on the third day of the Six Nations Tournament. A match which definitively launches Scotland and which prolongs the series of 25 consecutive defeats of Italy in the Tournament.

The tops:

L'Eclair Stuart Hogg
At the 22nd minute of the match, the score of the match was still 0 to 0 between the two teams, and neither Scotland nor Italy had really brought the danger close to in-goal. This is the moment that Stuart Hogg chose to mark the meeting with his class by an essay which he owes to no one but himself. On a counter ball, the back inherits the ball before taking the interval, achieving a superb framing overflow and beating while the last defender to go flatten. Scotland was launched.

Scotland finally scores
The Scots had not won any of their first two matches in the Tournament, and most of all had not even managed to score a single try, either against Ireland or against England. With three achievements by Hogg (22nd), Harris (46th) and Hastings (78th), the Scots were at least able to reassure themselves on this point even if they missed a try to obtain the offensive bonus point.

The flops:

And 25 for Italy
Italy still does not succeed. With this defeat against Scotland, Italy has brought to 25 its sad series of consecutive defeats in the Six Nations Tournament, which began in 2015. A third defeat in three matches which also ideally launches the Nazionale towards the conquest of a fifth wooden spoon in a row. Franco Smith's men have two chances to avoid it: in two weeks in Ireland, and against England on the last day.

Adam Hastings does not forget Russell
In disagreement with his coach Gregor Townsend, Finn Russell did not participate in the victory of his family in Italy this Saturday. At the opening, Adam Hastings was once again responsible for hosting the Scottish game. And despite a test late in the game (78th), the opener struggled to lead his own. Not always very inspired in his choices, he is guilty of a loss of ball (52nd), which is not far from causing an Italian try a few minutes later. He was also very imprecise against the poles (1/4) and did not allow the Scots to break away earlier in the score.
