With great enthusiasm, the district social committee decided in mid-December 2018 to implement the “Housing for Aid” project in the district. So far, not much has happened - much to the annoyance of the senior advisory board.

Bad Tölz - The principle of “living for help” is quickly explained: older people offer younger living space and receive support in everyday life, for example at home or while shopping. One hour of help is scheduled per square meter of living space. From the perspective of senior adviser Ute Reuter, you kill two birds with one stone in this way: some find affordable living space, others can stay in their familiar surroundings for longer. According to Reuter, the project in Munich-Neuhausen has been running very successfully for 20 years. 500 partnerships from young and old have already been created.

In the district, on the other hand, the situation is “devastating,” says Reuter with regard to affordable housing. To change that, she has spent a lot of time and energy over the past two years pushing the project forward. With success: "We have the full support of the district." But the State Ministry for Family, Work and Social Affairs in Munich is currently slowing Reuter and her colleagues. There the senior advisory board had applied for funding. "But it was not what it should have been." Soon she wants to try again - and hopes for the full funding amount of 40,000 euros in a timely manner. With this start-up funding from the “Living independently in old age” program, the authority supports non-profit organizations for a period of up to two years.

A potential sponsor has already been found. But even if the new application formally fulfills all criteria, there are further stumbling blocks: The district would also raise around 40,000 euros. The question is whether the Ministry also approves full funding against this background. "But we rely on that," says Reuter. In addition, the senior advisory board does not only want to place students, as is traditionally the case. "We want to expand the circle, especially to single mothers." According to Reuter, many women have asked about the current state of affairs.

Senior adviser Ursula Fiechtner from Wackersberg frustrates the prospect of many more weeks before the ministry makes a decision. "It is so difficult, the volunteers are always slowed down," the district farmer is annoyed. Ursula Fiechtner and Ute Reuter initiated the project together with Helga Lehner from Münsing. And according to Reuter, they hold on to it, despite all the frustration: "It just has to be something, and it will also be something."
