New sense for old photovoltaic systems - "However, two things are necessary for this"

Are “old” photovoltaic systems still worthwhile if the high feed-in tariff ceases to apply? Certainly - as was now to be learned in Oberhausen.

Oberhausen - The energy transition is growing up. This means that the first photovoltaic systems that were installed because their owners wanted to collect the high feed-in tariffs are getting on in years. The funding for the old systems is now running out. According to Christof Wiedmann, this raises the question for their owners: "What should I do with my" Ü-20 system? ".

Old photovoltaic systems are still used

For Wiedmann, one of the founders of the "Energy, Environment and Mobility" working group in Oberhausen, who - together with his neighbor - has such an "old system", the case is clear: "The system is still working, so we will continue to use it - differently than before. ”In order to pass on his knowledge to others, the specialist for electricity storage had invited to the“ Open Boiler Room Door ”. 15 visitors came, including two candidates for the mayor's office.

Wiedmann's PV system is still running as a "full feed-in system", but this year it is over. The consumption of 50 cents per kilowatt hour is eliminated. However, Wiedmann does not see this as a problem: "The electricity remains with us." Selling it no longer makes sense with the current feed-in tariffs. So the solution was: "Own consumption, and as much as possible."

The electricity supplied by the PV system can be used not only to operate household appliances, but also the heat pump for heating and the car. "However, two things are necessary for this," says Wiedmann: "a memory and an intelligent control system". He needs the storage to “save the electricity from day to night”, the control system to sensibly distribute the homemade energy according to current priority: “If the roast pork is in the oven, it has priority.”

Self-produced electricity cheaper than the purchased one

The three-stage system always delivers the electricity that comes from the roof or from the battery to the devices that are switched on manually using a switch, then comes the heat pump that heats up a buffer storage, and the electric car is in third place. "And if I know that I have to drive a longer distance," says the Oberhausen native, "then I can load the car with priority."

According to Wiedmann, it is also worth buying a new PV system for your own consumption. The modules are now so powerful and cheap that the self-produced electricity is cheaper than the purchased one. You don't even need a south-facing roof. The combination of two systems on an east and a west roof even has an advantage: "You have electricity for direct consumption from sunrise to sunset."

The number of solar fields in the district will increase sharply in the next few years - all district council candidates recently agreed on a discussion round. There is now a new building request for a meadow in the Weilheim Moos.

In addition to drinking water and wastewater, the Penzberger Stadtwerke have also played an important role in climate protection: They are planning new solar fields and expanding the district heating network. Special electricity models are also considered.
