2020-02-25T23:00:35.845Z

While more than 70 hours of debate in the National Assembly have so far adopted only the first of 65 articles of the pension reform, the president of the group La République en Marche (LREM) in the hemicycle announced this Tuesday evening that the deputies of its formation left the Palais Bourbon to denounce the " tunnel " of amendments from the left. He will thus remain the only representative of the presidential party pending a " healthy and peaceful " debate.

The deputies of the MoDem group followed the movement. Only Patrick Mignola will remain in the hemicycle to represent his party.

During the day, the Prime Minister, Edouard Philippe, had left open the possibility of having recourse to article 49.3 of the Constitution to have this controversial reform adopted. " My ambition is obviously to ensure that the debate takes place, that it is the most serious, the most in-depth, the most intelligent possible so that it has precisely its eminent function which belongs to Parliament. that is, to lay down the law, ”argued Edouard Philippe. " But if that is not possible, if after many hours of debate, we find that it is not possible, then the Constitution authorizes, if necessary, the Prime Minister to use an article: 49.3 " , further detailed the head of government, recalling that several of his right-wing predecessors, notably Édouard Balladur and Jean-Pierre Raffarin, had used them in their time.
