"File number XY": ZDF broadcast reports on the fate of identity theft victims
In a film, ZDF also reports on Wednesday the fate of 60-year-old Heinrich T. As is shown to viewers, the pensioner is initially sent unusual mail. Shoes, ski equipment and large amounts of clothing are sent to the man's address. Meanwhile, invoices from hotlines, banks and hospitals in Wuppertal , Bielefeld and Gütersloh end up in the mailbox. Even the application for a marriage certificate and an invoice for a Czech driver's license are sent to the 60-year-old. But Heinrich T. is said to have ordered none of this himself.

It quickly becomes clear that the identity of the 60-year-old must have been stolen. Heinrich T. promptly suspects that his identity card must have been photographed unnoticed when he was in hospital . Although the 60-year-old immediately filed a complaint with the police, Heinrich T. had to prove almost every day that he hadn't bought with the stolen identity himself.
The pensioner must continue to assume that he will be exploited by a fraudster for a full two years. Then in August 2019 the relieving news: the police can finally catch the perpetrator . In February 2020, the fraudster was sentenced to four years in prison . A residential building in Regensburg (Bavaria) went up in flames after an explosion. The ZDF program "Aktenzeichen XY" showed a dramatic video in February.
There was no trace of Marvin for over two years, and the 15-year-old reappeared in December. "Case number XY" reported the case again shortly afterwards.
