Some 310 million euros will be allocated in 2020 to several professional branches to increase the wages of those " who accompany the most fragile daily ," announced Thursday the Ministry of Solidarity and Health in a statement.

During an annual salary conference, bringing together the social partners and the main players in this sector, the Director General of Social Cohesion, Virginie Lasserre, detailed several increases for this sector which has 1.7 million employees and around 41,000 institutions. For employees of the private non-profit health, social and medico-social sector and the inter-union union of the health and social sectors (loss of autonomy, disability, accommodation and social reintegration, protection of childhood), the rate of change in the wage bill is set for 2020 at + 1.25%.

For employees in the home help branch, an " additional effort " was made with a rate set at + 2.7% " to allow the lowest wages to be reassessed ," said the press release. These increases represent "an effort of more than 310 million euros, all funding combined," said the ministry, which argues "a first step in favor of upgrading " the professions of old age. Since 2016, the annual rate of change in the wage bill for these branches was + 1%, told AFP the Directorate General of Social Cohesion (DGCS).

Unattractive and little considered, the professions of old age were at the center of a report by former Minister Myriam El Khomri, handed over to the government in the fall with a view to reforming the sector, which has been postponed several times and is now promised " Before summer ". A social conference, chaired by the Minister of Labor and the Minister of Solidarity and Health, must take place "to identify other actions to improve the attractiveness of trades in this sector," confirms the ministry.
