OAS will audit elections in Dominican Republic 2:42

(CNN Spanish) - The Dominican Republic celebrates its independence on February 27 in the midst of a political crisis following the suspension of municipal elections due to the failure of automated voting.

The so-called "Trabucazo 2020", called through the social networks the "march of the million", according to its organizers, is a peaceful, non-partisan demonstration that brings the Dominican people together to fight corruption.

Dressed in black, mourning democracy, and with their tricolor flags in hand, protesters say their fight is just beginning.

During the last 11 consecutive days, large concentrations of young people have been staged outside the Central Electoral Board.

The objective: to demand transparency of the extraordinary elections convened for March 15 through an investigation of automated voting equipment.

As every February 27, the president of the Dominican Republic must report to the National Assembly.

This will be the last speech of Danilo Medina with eight years in power.

This demonstration will feature Juan Luis Guerra and Vicente García, among others.
