Simple coincidence of calendar, when the European Commission shines the spotlight on Africa, the World Bank presented Thursday its new strategy for the most fragile countries.
This turning point is based on an observation, documented in a Bank report according to which “ extreme poverty is more and more concentrated in areas affected by conflicts (FCS, as it stands) has been reduced in other countries since 2000 ” . In these vulnerable areas, the Washington-based institution wants to change its method. "The silos separated between humanitarian aid and economic aid do not work," says Axel van Trotsenburg, managing director of the Bank in charge of operations. Now, we are not only focusing on reconstruction, but we remain mobilized on development, even during conflicts, like in Afghanistan, ”he adds .
