A fatal fire broke out in Shajiao Village, Shatin. On the evening of Friday (28th), a unit on the 13th floor of Oriole Building suspected that an electric scooter near the door was short-circuited and caught fire. A female neighbor inside the house fled in time for the birth, but the door was closed by fire. Both the 8-year-old son and his 8-year-old son were unable to escape. They were both trapped. At about 11:36 last night, a unit on the 13th floor of the Jinying Building in Shajiao Village suddenly caught fire. The smoke rolled straight into the air. The fire was extinguished after about 21 minutes.

Sources said that a pair of adult men and women and an 8-year-old boy were trapped at the time of the fire and needed to be rescued by firefighters. When the two men were rescued, they were in a coma and were rushed to the Prince of Wales Hospital in Sha Tin. However, the boy died after being rescued; the female victim also had a blackened face and put on an oxygen mask to send to hospital.

At about 2 am today, the Assistant Commander (Operation) Wen Lianfa of the Tianxin Division explained the details of the fire. Wen said that the fire was believed to be caused by a short-circuit fire of an electric scooter near the door of the unit, which was not suspicious. The article stated that the fire unit had a family of three, including male and female heads of households and 8-year-old sons. The female head of the house went out to work at the time of the incident. In addition to the head of the house, there was also a female neighbor who assisted in caring for the 8-year-old boy.
