Hubert Oberhauser wants to remain mayor of Egling. He is a candidate for free voters. Why a gravel desert is a matter close to his heart.

Egling– The former Springer property in the center of Egling is actually not a place to rave about. It is a gravel desert surrounded by excavated hills, rampant shrubs and withered blades of grass. And yet Mayor Hubert Oberhauser (Free Voter) cannot hide his enthusiasm when he looks over the property.

He doesn't see what is. But what will emerge. Perhaps the most unusual project of his term. A building that not only has space for the town hall archive and social housing. It's a building where older people are looked after during the day. In which maybe the elderly read stories to the girls and boys from the neighboring kindergarten. "The house," Oberhauser is certain, "will create many points of contact and bring the generations together."

While Oberhauser is driving the day care project for the elderly out of inner conviction, the mayor is less passionate about other major projects. For example, the construction of a daycare center at the Eglingen primary school. Sure, such a day care center is prescribed by law and a future project that benefits many families, "and we are facing up to this task". However, he personally believes that the children would be better off in the safe family environment. Ultimately, he takes it pragmatically: "The zeitgeist demands it that way."

When his daughter and son - both of them of full age - were of school age, such a day care center was not yet an issue. Of course, his two children went to kindergarten until 1 or 2 p.m. But then it was done. What came after that was primarily his wife's job, who did a lot of the educational work. But that shouldn't mean that the first years of his children's life passed him by. On the contrary: "I have been closely involved in this," remembers the 52-year-old today. Papa Oberhauser, for example, was responsible for reading aloud. He also remembered spending hours studying maps and talking about countries and capitals: "It is important that you know your way around."

He himself had a "wonderful childhood". He once played football with huge enthusiasm, but rather "more or less successfully". For FC Bayern, he was simply “too little good,” says Oberhauser with a smile, but unfortunately also for the first team of SF Egling.

He didn't make a career in sports, but in his job and in politics. Perhaps his experiences in the family-owned inn were helpful. “There I learned early on how to deal with people. Oberhauser completed an apprenticeship as a butcher, then - in the renowned Alten Fährhaus in Bad Tölz - trained as a cook. He passed the master craftsman examination in the butcher's trade, passed the business management exam and was thinking about studying business administration. He rejected this when his father retired from the domestic business.

At the same time, Oberhauser gained experience in local politics. A path that was mapped out for him. His grandfather was the mayor, and his father was a member of the town council for many years. In his first term, Oberhauser was elected youth officer (1996), in his second, senior citizen (2004). He worked as Second Mayor for twelve years, and he has been the boss himself for six years.

Despite all professional obligations, Oberhauser is fully integrated into the club life at the Trachtenverein. He was the flag bearer for 18 years. In general, the clubs are particularly close to his heart. "There are not many in Egling that I am not in." The main reason: "These are also meeting places for young and older people."

Oberhauser sees himself as very close to nature and home. In his free time, he prefers to go up the mountain, go cross-country skiing or cycling. His great passion is hunting, and he has been a tenant for 25 years. He also owns a small piece of forest.

Environmental protection is also an important topic for him in his daily work. He thinks it is extremely sensible to energetically renovate the more than ten municipal buildings: "We have already done a lot, but we are still far from the end of the road." Everyone has to do something in this area: "We have to get away from many of the usual conveniences, ”says Oberhauser. “Everyone says: It doesn't work, and it doesn't work, and that's not enough. But with a lot of little things you can make a difference. ”He did not want to be an apostle and was aware that many things are easier said than done. "But there has to be a rethink."
