Spain confirmed its first death from coronavirus: it is a person who died in Valencia on February 13. At first, it had been said that the man had died of pneumonia, but a second analysis now confirmed that it was actually the virus originated in China.

This case was detected after a change of criteria regarding the definition of deaths that the Spanish Ministry made on February 27, which urged a second analysis of deaths from pneumonia of unknown origin.

According to Spanish media, the deceased man, "apparently", had recently traveled to Nepal and subsequently entered with pneumonia of unknown origin. According to these sources, it would be an "elderly" man who had no "close relatives." At the time of death, the incubation of the virus would have already exceeded 14 days.

Although at first it was not related to the coronavirus, doctors analyzed previously obtained samples to see if it was this disease and not a simple pneumonia. Finally, he tested positive.

Spain has 165 positive cases of coronavirus in 14 autonomous communities. All infected people are isolated, and there are several communities that continue to evaluate suspicious cases. Within that list, there are 56 infected in Madrid, 19 in Valencia, 18 in Catalonia and 13 in Andalusia, among others.
