2020-03-04T18:57:46.700Z

Emmanuel Macron and Donald Trump agreed on Wednesday to develop health, scientific and economic coordination within the G7 to fight against the coronavirus, said the Elysee.

Messrs. Macron and Trump agreed on the need to implement " a more effective response " to deal with the epidemic that affects many countries around the world, said the Elysee. The United States is presiding over the G7 this year and Donald Trump is scheduled to host his counterparts at a summit in the government residence in Camp David, Maryland, from June 10 to 12. This cooperation on the coronavirus is particularly eagerly awaited economically when the crisis is already having a negative impact on global growth.

During their interview, Emmanuel Macron and Donald Trump also discussed the crisis in Syria. The French president reiterated his " very great concern about the humanitarian disaster " in the Idleb region and " the security situation ," said the Elysee. The two presidents agreed on " the necessary cooperation between France and the United States " on this issue, said the French presidency.

After weeks of escalating tensions in the region, Turkey launched an offensive against the Syrian regime in the Idleb region last week. Turkish President Recep Tayyeb Erdogan is expected in Moscow on Thursday to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin, whose country militarily supports the regime of Bashar al-Assad.
