" This person had pneumonia and was diagnosed positive for the coronavirus today (Wednesday), " said the Basque Regional Government's Health Department in a press release. Spain announced on Tuesday the first death due to the epidemic, a man who died in February whose autopsy revealed that he was carrying the virus. He died on February 13 in a hospital in Valencia (east).

At 5:00 p.m. GMT on Wednesday, Spain had 200 cases of contamination across the country, the health ministry said. Authorities have taken precautionary measures such as holding closed door sporting events or canceling medical conventions to keep health workers available. But Spain has for the moment excluded drastic measures such as the closure of schools, unlike Italy where more than 100 dead and 3,000 contaminations have been recorded.
