At the time of parity, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) decided, this Wednesday, to authorize two standard-bearers per nation for the opening ceremony of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games. A "modification of the protocol directives of the IOC "which will therefore allow" two athletes, a man and a woman, for each National Olympic Committee (NOC), to carry the flag together during the opening ceremony of the Summer Olympic Games, "said the IOC. Note that the measurement is not compulsory, but optional. In the interests of gender balance, the IOC also decided that each delegation present in Tokyo should have "at least one female and one male athlete". Thus, the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games "will be the first Olympic Games in history where gender balance will be respected, with 48.8% women among the participants." In 2016, judoka Teddy Riner was chosen as the standard bearer for the French delegation for the opening ceremony of the Rio Games.
