Peruvian President Martín Vizcarra announced on Friday the detection of the first patient in Peru infected with the new coronavirus . This is a 25-year-old man who had recently been in Spain, France and the Czech Republic. On the other hand, Chile confirmed its fifth case , a 58-year-old person who is a relative of the third contagion in the Andean country.

The Peruvian President delivered a speech accompanied by the Minister of Health, Elizabeth Hinostroza, and said that the risk of the virus arriving in Peru "was always latent."

The president tried to issue a "message of tranquility" to the public, stressing that the Government took all necessary measures to deal with a situation of this type. In addition, it activated surveillance protocols in airports and in places with a large influx of tourists.

"We must remain calm, rely on the capabilities of our health system and continue with the protection measures as we have been doing," said Vizcarra, who promised that the government "will spare no effort" to protect the health of citizens.

For its part, the Chilean Ministry of Health confirmed this morning that a 58-year-old person is the fifth case of Coronavirus COVID-19 in the country .

According to an official statement, the new infected " is familiar with the third case reported in the country last March 4, and they made the same trip, where one of the destinations was northern Italy , a country that presents a community outbreak of this disease".

The person, who is in good general health conditions, "was under epidemiological surveillance and on Thursday presented symptoms associated with a mild respiratory condition", which is why he consulted at a private health center in the Metropolitan Region, which applied the protocol of attention for "the background of the trip".

The Public Health Institute reported this new case, the fifth in Chile, which is still in Phase 2 , since they were all infected abroad.

As part of the protocol, the patient was sent to his home, where he will remain with precautionary measures and under epidemiological surveillance.

Brazil, on the other hand, confirmed on Thursday that the number of confirmed cases of coronavirus increased to eight, two of them by local transmission. The Deputy Minister of Health, Joao Gabbardo, said in a press conference that four cases known until yesterday were added another four in the last hours. There are six in Sao Paulo, one in Rio de Janeiro and the remaining in the state of Espirito Santo.

In Argentina, the Ministry of National Health and the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires jointly confirmed the second case imported from COVID-19 coronavirus in Argentina, a 23-year-old male patient who returned to the country from Europe last Sunday 1st March.

The first coronavirus patient in the country had been confirmed last Tuesday. This is a 43-year-old man who had also arrived on March 1 from Milan, on a direct flight through Alitalia.
