Today, the United States obstructed the UN Security Council's adoption of a declaration supporting the cessation of hostilities agreement in Idlib.
The French Press Agency quoted diplomats as saying that Washington had blocked a draft UN Security Council statement supporting the cessation of hostilities agreement in Idlib after a closed session held at the request of Russia.
The diplomats reported that when Russia's permanent representative to the United Nations Vasily Nebenzia asked the 14 members of the Security Council to adopt a joint declaration on the agreement, Washington refused, saying it was "a premature matter."
To that, Nebenzia said in a press statement after the session, which was reported by Russia Today, that the agreement to stop hostilities in Idlib is being implemented in general.
Russian President Vladimir Putin announced yesterday at the end of his talks with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in Moscow that an agreement was reached to stop hostilities in Idlib at the current situation, noting that the agreement affirms a commitment to Syrian unity and sovereignty and to continuing to combat terrorism there.
