The Ministry of Internal Trade and Consumer Protection has tightened its control over markets to control prices, prevent food and consumer monopolies, and ensure their availability in markets and commercial stores, in line with the government's taking a series of precautionary measures to address the spread of the Corona virus.

During a tour on the Bab Sreejah and Bab al-Jabiyah markets, Deputy Minister of Internal Trade and Consumer Protection Jamal Shuaib explained that the aim of the tours is to monitor prices and follow the movement of markets to know the availability of materials in them and prevent their monopoly from some weak souls who take advantage of the current conditions of their personal interests, indicating that joint patrols will be conducted Between the Ministry and the Provincial Health Affairs to monitor markets, restaurants and cafes, and to emphasize hygiene and sterilization procedures.

In turn, the director of internal trade and consumer protection in Damascus, Adi Shibli, said that during the sounding of the markets, some merchants' prices for goods and materials have been revealed, and this will be followed up to reduce prices, calling on citizens to help consumer protection patrols by reporting to everyone who manipulates sales of goods and commodities or tries to tamper with the needs of citizens. the basic.

Hazem Al-Syouf, owner of a detergent store, affirmed in a statement to a SANA representative that the materials are available in the market and selling at regular prices, despite the slight increase in the prices of some materials due to the increased demand for them after the precautionary measures taken to tackle the Corona virus.

Muhammad Dabah Al-Jamal, a retail food retailer, said that the people ’strong demand for the materials has no justification because the materials are available and the shops are continuing their work, calling on the citizens to buy only their needs of the materials.

A number of citizens, including Mona Kubba, Amran al-Khudari and Manhal Ibrahim, indicated that it is necessary to act consciously and not to panic and fear and be led behind rumors to buy and store a lot of materials because the measures taken are precautionary measures aimed at protecting everyone, demanding elements of internal trade and consumer protection by stressing the markets and controlling prices that have risen due to Unjustified demand for malls and markets and the purchase of quantities above their needs.
