Hans Prescher died last Sunday at the age of 89 in Munich, as the Hessischer Rundfunk (HR) announced on Wednesday. Prescher had worked for HR for 38 years and for a long time headed the television game and film department. In 1994 he was retired.

Prescher was involved in the development of the crime classic "Tatort" around 1970. Hans Prescher's responsibility also included major projects such as the 11-part TV adaptation of the Thomas Mann novel "Buddenbrooks" (1979). In addition, he supervised cinema productions, among others with the directors Volker Schlöndorff, Werner Herzog and István Szabó. The feature films "Die Blechtrommel" by Schlöndorff and "Mephisto" by Szabó realized with HR participation were awarded the Oscar.
