In wartime, you don't skimp on resources. France, like all its European neighbors, has therefore decided to deploy an unprecedented arsenal to support its economy, vitrified by the coronavirus. Deferral of charges and taxes, massive partial unemployment, emergency aid for SMEs, traders and the self-employed, bank guarantee funds, nationalization if necessary… the State is committed, no more and no less, to preventing any bankruptcy and to come to the aid of all the companies victims of the virus. The cost of this infusion will be in the tens of billions of euros, perhaps even hundreds. Never seen!
To tell the truth, however impressive the enormity of the figures, it is difficult to see what alternative was available to the government. A country in a state of containment condemns its businesses and its businesses to a slow asphyxiation. Who would think of adding an economic and social drama to the health crisis?
