The Corona crisis, if you will, also has positive side effects. In the places plagued by airport noise, it is currently much quieter than usual due to the declining flight movements. The mood there does not, however, lift the current situation. Rather than a corona, but the usual noise, is the tenor here.

Around the airport - When walking around Eichenkofen, for example, far fewer machines are booming from the air. The situation is similar in Berglern, a bastion of runway resistance. The newly elected mayor Anton Scherer "already noticed a bit" that there is currently less aircraft noise. This is not a topic of conversation in Berglern, however. Corona too much determines everyday life. "We would rather wish it the other way around," says Scherer. That means: the usual noise from the air, but no virus.

For decades, the Oberdingen municipal councilor Rainer Hellinger has been used to the low-altitude aircraft rushing over his house in Schwaig. "If you live there for 25 years, you hide it," he says. But he did not miss the fact that things have calmed down. "It is much, much less air traffic," says Hellinger, who roughly estimates the flight movements at a fifth of the normal state. He would also prefer it to be as loud as ever and people would not have to worry about a virus pandemic.
